Proudly
presenting my college barkada, Sinabawang Gulay!
Composed
of eight freshmen of Quadricentennial section 1E3, Sinabawang Gulay was formed a few days after classes began at the College
of Education. The members: Alexis Leandro Caducio, yours truly, April
Ancheta, Myla Mendoza, Elliaj Kaye Capacete, Kamille Santos, Marilex Sion, and Roxanne Evangelista. The first time we went
out together was during our 10-11 break, when we went to the Multi-Deck Carpark to have some snacks.
The
name, however, was undetermined up to that point. I think it was during our June 20, 2007 Freshmen Tour that April Ancheta,
the would-be 1E3 Class Secretary, suddenly sang “Makulay ang buhay! Makulay ang buhay sa sinabawang gulay!”
She did so with matching actions. Then I asked, “So, 'yan na ang pangalan natin?” And they agreed!
Sinabawang
Gulay is a group connecting eight totally different personalities. You've got the performer in Alexis, the linguists in me
and April, and the mathematician in Marilex, among others. But the one thing that makes this group very close to me, is that
they were the ones whom I really bonded well with first. Of course, eventually, I began making friends with our classmates,
but this is the barkada.
With
them around, I'll agree with April:
“Makulay
ang buhay! Makulay ang buhay sa Sinabawang Gulay!”
P.S. The song has been used by 1E3 as an insignia, too!
